After a successful career in ceramics, Audrey Hayward Hickman started painting in oils and has been doing so successfully for the past 14 years. While still living in Johannesburg she worked with Kim Sacks in her Yeoville studio and continued working in clay when she re-located to Hermanus. She sold her one-off pieces from her art/ceramic outlet, The Brush Stroke, in Hermanus. She created the highly sought-after Cheri-Beri range of domestic ware and took part in numerous ceramic exhibitions in the Western Cape. She progressed quite naturally from creating in clay and painting in slips and underglazes to creating on canvas with oil paints. She was priviledged to be inspired by and work with very talented artists such as Ken Hunken, Shelly Adams and Erica Berry Mitchell.

She has exhibited with the Vermont Art Circle, the Hermanus Art Society, the Art Book Club and has taken part in various other seasonal art exhibitions in Hermanus.
Her portfolio includes portraits, birds and fish, flowers and semi-abstracts. She is also an Icon writer and has taker part in various Icon exhibitions in Hermanus.
